Welfare haven’t quite bedded down yet but tonight’s performance showed plenty of promise for the rest of the season. Allowing the home team too much time and space in general and falling behind to a free header in the 12th minute didn’t help the visitors cause early on but as the half wore on they fought their way back into the game. The Welfare's best opportunity came in the 25th minute when calls for what looked to be a stonewall penalty were waved away by the referee.
The second half was a more even contest as both ‘keepers were called into action and made excellent stops. As the game drew to a close Chirk were content to run down the clock and make sure of the three points which keeps them top of the division.
